Trottiscliffe Willow is a small, family run business based in a rural Kent

village.

Each animal is made to commission by Natalie and sculpted by hand using

traditional methods and techniques, making each piece unique in its appearance and character.

All our willow is of a high quality and sourced from the Somerset Levels. Famous for its wetland areas it has continued to produce some of the finest willow around for over 200 years. Willow is harvested during the winter months so provides an important ecological habitat for wildlife during the summer.

About Us

The Creative Process

The type and size of sculpture commissioned will influence the colour, length and thickness of willow rods selected. Each rod requires continual soaking for between four and ten days before they are pliable enough to begin creating the animal.

Each sculpture is made using a free weaving technique and take between four and eighty hours to complete. I do not use steel armature or wire in my designs but some do require metal rods in their legs for support and to enable them to stand.

Once completed each piece is coated with a high quality UV sunlight barrier varnish to help protect against the elements and we recommend the animals are treated regularly to help slow down the effects of weathering.
